Ubisoft NEXT is an annual competition designed to showcase the talent of video game development students in Ontario. We were challenged to create a level for a linear, action, adventure game. The two-part level design challenge was representative the production journey a mission takes, from the paper documentation pitch to its screen playable block mesh. It included an initial pitch, feedback, revised documentation, creation of the draft level with a mid-creation change to the initial design specs, and finally a level fine-tuned through player feedback before submission.

Level story description:

Mission: A quill of great importance was used hundreds of years ago, to write the scrolls in a little-known basilica in Tuscany, the Basilica Florencia de Santa Maria. This quill was reported to have come from the mythical creature known as the Phoenix. There are four areas surrounding the cathedral within the basilica grounds. The meditation garden, the stables, the maze grounds, and bishops' rectory/graveyard. Your mission is to find your way inside the crypt underneath the cathedral, find and steal the quill without being detected and deliver it to your interested buyer who wants to use the DNA found in the quill's feather to clone the legendary creature.
